The UK's trade with the European Union will be "at least as free" after Brexit as it is now, Liam Fox says. The International Trade Secretary said it was in other countries' interests to avoid tariffs which he said would "harm the people of Europe". He also predicted the UK would be a standard-bearer for global free trade and that Brexit represented a "golden opportunity" to forge new links.

Egyptian member of parliament Elhamy Agina continued his recent string of controversial statements, this time calling for all women to undergo mandatory ‘virginity tests’ to ensure their virginity prior to being admitted to universities in Egypt. In statements to Youm7, Agina, who was previously disciplined for stating women must undergo female genital mutilation, called on the Minister of Higher Education to issue a mandate that would require him or his officials to review all virginity tests prior to providing female students with university cards.

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore suspended from office for remainder of term

Alabama’s top judge was suspended from the bench and removed from office without pay for the remainder of his term, the state’s Court of the Judiciary ruled Friday.

This is the second time Roy S. Moore, chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, has been effectively removed from office, following his ouster in 2003 over his refusal to obey judicial rulings ordering him to remove a Ten Commandments statue from the Alabama Judicial Building.

Multiple law enforcement sources tell CBS News homeland security correspondent Jeff Pegues that more U.S. state election databases have been hacked than previously thought. According to sources, a total of about 10 states have had their systems probed or breached by hackers, similar to what happened in Arizona and Illinois. Twenty years ago, welfare as Americans knew it ended. President Bill Clinton signed a welfare overhaul bill that limited benefits and encouraged poor people to find jobs. "We're going to make it all new again, and see if we can't create a system of incentives which reinforce work and family and independence," Clinton said at a White House bill signing ceremony. The goals were admirable: help poor families get into the workforce so they'd no longer need government aid. They'd get job training and support, such as help with child care.

Polish women to stage all-out strike next week

Women in Poland are to stage an all-out strike to protest the country’s plan to effectively ban abortions. Female workers across the predominantly Catholic country will take part in the action on Monday, in an effort to disruptively draw attention to attempts to restrict Poland’s severely limited abortion laws even further. Those taking part hope the strike will bring Polish society and the economy to a standstill.
